Met behulp van aangetroffen materiaal, zoals uitwerpselen, haar, huid, bloed, beenderen, weefsels en dergelijke is identificatie mogelijk met DNA barcoding analyse. Deze analyse kan bijvoorbeeld gebruikt worden om:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Muizen in een gebied op soort te brengen met uitwerpselen. Vervolgens wordt de DNA volgorde van dit stuk vermenigvuldigde DNA bepaald en vergeleken met alle DNA volgordes in de database. Aan de hand van deze database kan de soort zeer betrouwbaar ge\u00efdentificeerd worden.
